Lithium Battery Precautions

 

The Selection of Battery:

Batteries with different chemical systems, production structures and models own different features, such as different open circuit voltage, load capacity and nominal capacity and so on. Taking this into consideration, we suggest that the clients should pay more attention to the nominal voltage, operating voltage, discharge current & discharge feature, operating temperature and the service life according to the features of electrical equipments while selecting. So as to each kind of batteries, should the clients evaluate those features according to the design requirement can they choose the most appropriate products that really meets.

 

Safety caution

 

l         Do not connect the positive and negative terminals of the battery.

l         Do not heat the battery or place it into fire

l         Do not recharge battery.

l         Do not force-discharge.

l         Do not connect batteries in series or parallel by oneself.

l         Do not swallow.

l         Do not discard.

l         Stop immediately use it when serious heating or leakage.

l         Before using our products, please read the manual carefully or contact our technician.

 

Protection circuit design:

 

1.      short-circuit protection

Some high-capacity batteries or power type ones with high discharge ability can cause great transient current while short circuit happened, which can cause bombing because of the thermal runaway. So it is necessary to add short current protection system. For example add current-limiting resistancePTC or fusing model insurance tube and so on to circuit. The reference circuit as follow:

 

2.   Force-discharge protection

Each kind of battery needs nominal discharge cut-off voltage. When over discharge happened, especially forced discharge that causes reversal happened, the bombing could take place. So, it is necessary to choose a two-electrode valve with suitable standard to prevent reverse polarity when many batteries used in series or there being hidden trouble caused by the forced discharge from external power source. Follows are the reference circuit:

 

 

3.     Abnormal-charge Protection

As non-rechargeable, Lithium battery can cause danger if charged. So the design in case of Lithium battery being charged should be included in the circuit of electrical appliance with multi-power.

 

 

4.     About the application of two-electrode valve

1)      In operation the two-electrode valve and resistor can share some of the whole voltage that causes the decrease of the effective load voltage, so take those into consideration when designing the circuit and selecting batteries.

1)      The two-electrode valve can select the direction of current though, there is still the risk of revised leakage current. So please select the one whose leakage current is less than 0.5μA and make sure that the accumulation quantity of abnornal charges is less than normal capacity's 1% of the Lithium battery.

2)      In the state of low current, the resistance can be reduced dramatically by some alloy effect which would cause failure use of two-electrode valve.
